Winners Celebrating El Niño Success

The El Niño lottery took place on Wednesday January 6th and it was good news for the winners, especially those with the number 19570. This special draw had a total prize fund of €700m and the top prize was €2m. As with the El Gordo de Navidad lottery draw, the El Niño sees players buy tenth shares (decimos) of tickets, so they will receive €200,000 each. Now that really is a great way to start the new year. 

The El Niño lottery is a traditional one in Spain. It celebrates the day when the three Kings from the East visited the baby Jesus and gave him their gifts. People from all over the country were waiting to discover what the winning numbers would be. It’s often seen as a second chance for those who didn’t get a win in the El Gordo de Navidad draw held on December 22.

Top prize winning tickets were sold in areas such as Andalucia, the Basque Country, Madrid (who always seem to get a big winner), Valencia, Cantabria, Galicia, the Canary Islands and Murcia. Overall, the top prize was won at 53 lottery outlets. There were plenty of other prizes to be won though in the El Niño draw. The second prize number was 03436 and that is worth €75,000 per ticket. 

Success for Mallorca

One area that has great cause to celebrate is Mallorca. They won a share of the first prize and it’s the first time since 1998 that the top El Niño prize has been won in the Balearics. A tobacconists/newsagents in Calle San Miguel in Llucmajor sold that winning number of 19570. Those who have won less than €3000 will be able to collect their winnings from the lottery outlets. Higher amounts that have been won will require the winners to go to a financial entity that has an agreement with Loterías y Apuestas del Estado.

Spain does love a lottery and now their attention will turn towards the next EuroMillions Superdraw. That takes place on Friday February 5th with a guaranteed jackpot of €130m (£115m). After two Superdraw wins last year, Spain will be hoping for even more success in 2021.
