Will the €19m Irish Lotto Jackpot Finally be Won Tomorrow?

Saturday December 11 could see history created in the Irish Lotto. There’s a €19,060,800 jackpot and if won, that’ll be the highest ever prize won in the draw. However, the jackpot hasn’t been won since June 5.

50 draws have been held without the jackpot being won. There are plenty wondering just why this is the case. No one is suggesting there’s any wrongdoing going on but it’s the longest run without a jackpot win.

The long run without an Irish Lotto jackpot win has grabbed the attention of politicians. Representatives of the National Lottery and the Lottery Regulator will be asked questions by the Oireachtas Finance Committee on Wednesday December 15.

The Irish Lotto jackpot reached €19,060,800 at the end of September. It’s been capped ever since but still no one has won the top prize. The second-tier prize has been increasing and the Saturday December 4 draw saw one ticket win €1.03 million.

The Lottery Regulator has said that although the jackpot is “experiencing a particularly long roll”, the opposite can occur. This year saw the Irish Lotto jackpot won on three consecutive Saturdays in a row between late May and early June.

Questions

One Irish politician with lots of questions to ask is Bernard Durkan who is a member of the Oireachtas Committee. He intends asking how secure and up to date is the technology that’s being used by the National Lottery. Another question will be if there have been examinations into how to improve the chances of a player winning the jackpot.

Mr Durkin has previously suggested that the number of main balls in the draw be reduced from 47 to 45. The current number is far less than the 59 that are used in the UK Lotto draw, yet that produces regular jackpot wins.

Maybe a must-be-won rule should be introduced to the Irish Lotto. That exists in the UK Lotto game and if applied in Ireland, the jackpot would have been won months ago.Perhaps the jackpot is just waiting to be won in time for Christmas?
