A 23-strong syndicate from Brooklands Primary School in Brantham, England were even noisier than their most boisterous pupils after winning £1m in the EuroMillions draw held on Tuesday October 21st.School secretary and syndicate leader Helju Cross, 52, was out shopping with her mother when she popped into a newsagent to check the syndicate’s tickets. She explained how delight over their first two EuroMillions tickets winning £8 was totally eclipsed by the winnings from their third ticket.The store assistant told her the winnings from the ticket were too much to be paid out there and then and asked if she wanted to check the numbers. The lucky winner who admits “I must have been in shock” declined and went to a coffee shop to check the results online.That didn’t prove an easy task though as she explains: “It was a complete farce. Every time I tried to check the numbers something else would happen so it wasn’t until I was in the car with my mother I could safely see what we had won.”When she realized that the ticket was worth £1m the syndicate leader decided to keep the good news to herself. After all, telling your elderly mother you’d just won a share of £1m while she’s driving a car isn’t a great idea is it?Once safely home, she verified the win and started spreading the great news with the rest of the syndicate members. When she arrived at school, the teachers and support staff let out near deafening whoops of joy and shrieking. In fact Head Teacher, Christine Davey, 36, said “we actually gave our more boisterous Year 6 a run for their money!”The syndicate members will each receive £43,478.26 and are already planning on how to spend their winnings. Ideas include exotic family holidays in Australia, Bali and Italy. Not everyone is intending to use their winnings to go on a spending spree.
