Wagga Wagga Woman Celebrating $9.8m Australian Powerball Win

What a way to start a new year! Just an hour into 2021, a 20-year-old woman from Wagga Wagga in Australia received some great news. She was the sole winner of a fantastic $9.8m Australian Powerball jackpot.

The woman has asked to remain anonymous but she’s celebrating a total win of $9,835,085.97. She hadn’t checked the results of the draw when it was made on New Year’s Eve. As her ticket wasn’t registered, lottery officials couldn’t contact her with the great news.

Sleep before Spending

The delighted winner was still in shock and a bit tired when talking about her windfall. “I can't believe it. Thank you. It's been quite a night! I haven't had a lot of sleep,” she said. There’d be no sudden trip to the shops for her though, getting some sleep was her initial top priority.

The discovery of her big win came as she was trying to find something in her bag. She saw her ticket and decided to check the results. Although she realised that she’d won a prize, the 20-year-old didn’t know how much. Her friends took a look, and the amazing discovery was made.

Early Success

Some players buy tickets for years before getting a big win. However, this player said her jackpot win came with perhaps only the third Australian Powerball ticket she’d bought. “I just thought, it's the end of the year and I should try my luck,' said the jackpot winner.The Australian Powerball winner isn’t sure what she’ll do with her winnings. “I’m going to sit down and make a plan. All I know is my life is really going to change! It's a great way to start 2021!' said the lucky player.

Her winning ticket was purchased from the Lucky Crow Lotto in Wagga Wagga Marketplace. That certainly lived up to its name didn’t it! Owner David Ritter said it was the first Division One ticket they’d sold.

The winning numbers the Australian Powerball draw on December 31 were: 01-02-07-08-11-16-28 and the Powerball 07.
