Unemployed Man Lands Php 75 million lottery jackpot
When you are out of work, any financial boost is appreciated. For an unemployed man from Quezon City which is a suburb of Manila in the Philippines his money worries are over. He won a Php 75 million lottery jackpot, around £1.12 million.
The 49-year-old won his fantastic prize in the March 1 Grand Lotto 6/55 draw. He had been employed in the catering industry, sometimes a dishwasher or a part-time waiter. The pay wasn’t to his liking so he quit but struggled to find a new one.
He’s been a rather patient man waiting for his big lottery success. For the past 25 years he’s been playing but always believed that everyone’s lucky moment will come along at just the right time.
Couldn’t afford a ticket
When asked how he would spend his windfall, he has some very constructive ideas. They include buying land, starting a business and helping his family.
Also celebrating were a father-and-son from San Pablo, Laguna. They won a Php 11.6 million (£173,994.20) prize in the February 27 MegaLotto 6/45 top prize.
They had a special reason for matching the numbers 25-4-11-35-15-09. They were all either the birth dates of family members or their age.
The father, 64, had an agreement to share any lottery winnings with his son but had an idea a big win was on the way. “My horoscope said 2023 is a year of abundance for all those born in 1959 and there is a big chance to get rich this year, so I just bet on the lottery.”
His son says that they will be saving most of their winnings. Next month sees his parents travel to visit their siblings in Canada. When returning next year “we will think about what to do with the money, but basically, it is for our family's future,” he added.
