Two $1 Million Scratchcard Wins in a Week in North Carolina

Thomasville in North Carolina, USA, appears to be a very lucky place to buy a scratchcard. Two players in the space of a week won a $1 million prize. The winning scratchcards were on different games and purchased from two separate stores in the town.

Jumbo Win

Mario Paniagua Garcia claimed his big win on a ‘Jumbo Bucks’ scratchcard on Thursday June 17. His scratchcard was purchased from the Cross Road Curb Market in Thomasville. He decided to accept his great win as a one-off lump sum payment. Once he has paid his federal and state taxes, Mario went home with $424,503.

His win was the fourth of eight that are up for grabs on the ‘Jumbo Bucks’ scratchcard. The game was launched in April.

One big win in a town is great news but a week later another one came along. Again, it was a $1 million prize (before tax of course) but this time on the ‘Millionaire Maker’ scratchcard. This time it was Rodney Everhart who went to the Eagle Mart which is only ten minutes drive from the Cross Curb Market.

Rodney’s purchase was a lucky one as it won the top prize.  It’s a popular scratchcard as it’s the first in the state to offer 30 $1 million prizes. Speaking about his big win, Rodney said: “It’s very exciting. It’s a big, huge blessing." His win was the 15^th of the 30 $1 million prizes available. Just like the other scratchcard winner, he opted to take the one-off lump payment and after tax, he received a total of $424,503.

Time for Elk Hunting

He has big plans on how to spend his scratchcard winnings. Bills are going to be paid and that will include the mortgage on his house. Once that has been done, he has plans to help his loved ones and go travelling.

The delighted winner said: “I'll be able to do some things for my mother and father and immediate family and go out West to Colorado and Montana and elk hunt!"
