Time to Give Up the Trowels Says £3.6m Set for Life Winner
John Stembridge from Trowbridge in Somerset, England can end his days working as a plasterer. He won £10,000 a month for the next 30 years in the May 18 Set for Life lottery draw but took weeks to check his ticket.
His win will total £3.6 million and it means his days as a plasterer are soon to be over. The 51-year-old is a keen bird-watcher and had been enjoying taking photos of a Dipper. That’s a native aquatic songbird but it was a Lucky Dip that has forever changed his life.
On his way home, he decided to buy a Lucky Dip Set for Life ticket but then forgot about buying it. His ticket remained in his van for a few weeks before being checked. When seeing if it had won anything the shop assistant told him he’d need to call the National Lottery.
Are you sitting down?
John believed he’d only won £100. That call was to change his life as he was asked "Are you sitting down?” Then he was told the amazing news of his £3.6 million win. He burst into tears on hearing the amazing news.
Time to give up the trowels
The Set for Life winner now wants to give up plastering. He’s been doing that for 20 years but now says: “It’s time to give up the trowels.” No longer will he be returning home covered in plaster dust.
However, his working days are far from over. He wants to use some of his Set for Life winnings to begin his own businesses. One will be as a professional photographer, the other opening a luxury fishery. He also wants to build his dream home close to a lake and his beloved fish.
His spending plans also include buying a luxury camper van. When that’s been purchased he’ll be able to travel around Europe on a fishing adventure.
