Ticket Sold in Georgia Wins $478 million Powerball Jackpot
For the first time in eight years, a ticket sold in the US state of Georgia has won the Powerball jackpot. A ticket bought at a Quick Mart in Buford won the fantastic $478 million in the October 23 draw.
It’s the first time the Powerball jackpot has been won since August. The winning numbers were: 02-15-27-29-39 and the Powerball 24. Two other tickets sold in Pennsylvania and Texas matched the five main numbers to win $1 million.
The Powerball jackpot winner is yet to come forward to claim their prize. They have the option of receiving their Powerball winnings as an annuity or a one-off lump-sum payment of $230.6 million, both subject to taxes.
The last Powerball lottery jackpot winner in Georgia was when a couple won a $248.6 million prize.
Jammed Machine no disaster
You’d imagine a jammed lottery machine is a total nightmare. However, for a man from Illinois, USA, it proved to be the exact opposite.
On August 24 while buying some groceries, he also decided to play a lottery game. The machine jammed on Lotto so he was unable to play his desired game. He ended up buying a ticket for the next Lotto draw instead and it ended up winning him $9.2 million.
Recalling the moment when he discovered his win, he spoke about the conversation he had with his wife. “We are laughing over how angry I was at the broken machine — and we're so grateful for how it all turned out.”
No joke
George Hurt from Virginia, USA, is celebrating a £1 million lottery win. He had gone to a 604 Minute Market in Roanoke to make the purchase that was to change his life. Just before buying his tickets, Mr Hurt joked with his friends that he was going to win the lottery.
One of the four scratchcard tickets he bought won him $1 million. “I am proof that prayers do get answered,” said the lucky winner. He opted to take his winnings as a lump-sum payment of $571,000 before taxes.
