Ticket Sold in Austria Wins Record €250 Million EuroMillions Jackpot
EuroMillions history was made on March 28 with a record jackpot won. A ticket sold in Austria was lucky enough to win its owner(s) an amazing €250 million.
The jackpot had not been won since February 28 and since then we have had the first EuroMillions Superdraw of the year. That March 7 draw ended in a rollover and the lack of a jackpot win led to this fantastic top prize.
Massive demand
The top prize was due to be €245 million but the soaring demand for tickets led to that figure being increased to the jackpot cap of €250 million.
Just one ticket was able to match 10-21-30-42-45 and the two Lucky Stars 1 and 9. It was a chaotic night on Friday evening with players desperate to find out if they had won the largest prize the EuroMillions draw can offer.
Delay
Technical issues reared their ugly head and they led to a delay in the result of this record draw. It was after midnight that the news of the record EuroMillions win was finally revealed.
Amazingly, it was a ticket sold in Austria that landed the record win. It seems that the country just did not want to lose its proud record of having sold the largest winning EuroMillions ticket. Austria were the record holders before Friday’s draw. A EuroMillions ticket sold in that country won €240 million in December 2023.
This latest win means two tickets alone that were sold in Austria have won €490 million between them. That beats the €445 million won by the two most successful UK tickets that won jackpots in 2022. Five years ago, a ticket sold in France won a €200 million EuroMillions top prize.
Whoever has won this fantastic prize has three years to claim their winnings. They also have the right to remain anonymous so we may never know just who won the jackpot.
It was a massive weekend for lottery players with a $527 million Powerball jackpot won on Saturday. We’ll have more about that tomorrow.
Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw will have a jackpot of €17 million (£14 million).
