Ticket Kept in Wardrobe was a $30.2 million NZ Lotto Winner
Nearly a month after winning a $30.2 million NZ Lotto jackpot in the October 23 draw, a family on Auckland’s North Shore have claimed their winnings.
The windfall is the seventh-largest win in the history of the NZ Lotto. The lucky father received the fantastic cheque and was joined by some of his jubilant children. One of his daughter’s said they “still can’t believe this is actually real” and added: “It feels like someone’s going to pop their head in at any moment and tell us it’s all a big joke.”
Wealthy wardrobe
Her father is a regular purchaser of lottery tickets but doesn’t instantly check them. He keeps his tickets stashed away in the top of his wardrobe. Little could he have imagined one of them was worth $30.2 million.
The day after the draw one of his daughter’s sent him an intriguing text. It told him the store he buys his NZ Lotto tickets from had sold a jackpot winning ticket. Despite that he still didn’t check the ticket.
Just check the ticket!
A week after the draw the prize still hadn’t been claimed. Still he didn’t check it though! It wasn’t until the following week that his ticket was finally checked online. That’s when he found out his ticket was a “major prize winner.”
Not knowing how much he’d won, his ticket was taken to the store where it had been purchased. The store employee burst into tears when seeing it was the $30.2 million winner.
A couple from Christchurch in New Zealand missed an NZ Lotto draw and later found out they’d won $1 million.
Some time was spent at home before he began telling his family the incredible news. His mother didn’t find out until a video call while he was receiving his cheque.
Family means so much to him and he says this win will be used to help them. “My kids and my grandkids will be comfortable,” said the NZ Lotto winner.
He’ll treat himself though too with a new car, motorbike, ride-on lawnmower and possibly even a boat being purchased.
