Three Tickets Share $160 million Australian Powerball Jackpot
Lottery jackpots around the world have been reaching massive amounts. That includes a record $160 million Australian Powerball jackpot in the October 27 draw. Three tickets managed to share the jackpot.
Each of the tickets won $53.33 million with the winners coming from Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales.
One of the winners was a blue-collar worker from Clyde in Victoria. He was enjoying a quiet night at home when a phone call from The Lott changed his life forever. It told him he was one of the three Australian Powerball winners.
He simply couldn't believe the news continually repeating ‘oh my god’ and then a few expletives. The very lucky Australian Powerball player said that he couldn’t wait to tell his family his amazing news.
Dogs galore
He’s already thinking of how to spend his winnings. His grandson wants a dog for a Christmas present. “He can have all the dogs in the world now!” joked the Australian Powerball winner. As for work, he declared, “I’m out of here, mate. Retirement is calling.”
The New South Wales winner hadn’t registered his winning Australian Powerball ticket. That meant officials had to wait for the winner to claim their prize. It took a few days but finally a man from Penrith claimed his jackpot win of $53.3 million.
He had no idea that a ticket sold in Penrith had been one of the Australian Powerball jackpot winners. It was a massive shock therefore when he checked his ticket. Only when he contacted lottery officials did he believe he was a multi-millionaire.
A new home
It’s a win that nearly didn’t happen. He hadn’t bought a ticket for the draw and had to rush out to get one before the deadline. The Australian Powerball winner says he’ll now be able to buy a home for his family and his children can “have whatever they want for Christmas.”
Tonight sees a 298.5 million SuperEnalotto draw. Then tomorrow, there’s a staggering $1.2 billion Powerball draw. Will we see more big winners?
