THE WEDDING WHERE THE HAPPY COUPLE GAVE THEIR GUESTS PRESENTS
It’s a tradition for the guests to buy the happy couple presents but the situation was reversed at a wedding in Scunthorpe when a lottery winner got married on Saturday May 31.Dave Long won £1 million on the EuroMillions lottery last year and the ex-lorry driver married his girlfriend, Kath, in a civil ceremony held at the Royal Hotel in Scunthorpe. Guests couldn’t believe their eyes at the reception as they found lucky dip tickets for that evening’s lottery draw. It’s not known if any of the presents were winning tickets but Dave says “we are keeping our fingers crossed.”The couple married after being together for eighteen years and engaged for thirteen. Winning the lottery meant they could afford the £12,000 wedding (£2,000 over the original budget) which included hiring 23 rooms at the hotel. Dave didn’t mind the cost though: “It was the best £12,000 I’ve spent. It was a great day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”“It was an absolutely lovely day on Saturday” said the new Mrs Long. “Being surrounded by all the people I love most in life made it even more magical.”Dave quit his job as a lorry driver after his big win but his former boss, Ian Crawshaw was his best man at the wedding. It’s a role-reversal situation as thirty years ago Dave was Ian’s best man when he got married. Kath, who used to work as a cleaner at Scunthorpe railway station, was given away by her son Mark Fox. Her four bridesmaids all wore red dresses as the groom is a massive Liverpool fan.The couple were due to be going on a touring honeymoon in Scotland but that’s been cancelled, so they’ll be staying in Scunthorpe. However they will be going on the luxury Caribbean cruise that Dave has promised his wife.Since winning the £1 million prize on the EuroMillions, Dave has purchased a new home for his 81-year-old widowed mum Joan. "As for the rest, that is all put by for a rainy day” said the happy groom. It is easy to buy your EuroMillions lottery tickets online at Lottery24.com.
