Tears Flow for £250,000 Scratchcard Winner

Have you ever been so surprised that you just can’t speak? Well, that’s what happened to Corey Skeffington from Coalisland in Northern Ireland. He’d just discovered a £250,000 National Lottery scratchcard win last year and it wasn’t long before he began crying.

The National Lottery have released a series of calls from players getting in touch after a big win. As you can imagine, they contain a lot of shouting, screaming and crying. They are so important though as they document life-changing moments.

Unbelievable

One was the calls was with 24-year-old  machine-operator and footballer Corey who recalled speaking to a “lovely lady.” He recalled: “I couldn’t believe the words were leaving my mouth as I told her that I thought I’d won a quarter of a million pounds, and when she confirmed that I had indeed won, well… words can’t really describe that feeling.”

He had been out with friends and bought a scratchcard. When it revealed a £250,000 win, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “I just sat there staring at the Scratchcard and went as white as a sheet – so much so that my friends were actually asking me what was wrong.” Some even thought he had a fake scratchcard and he was playing a prank.

Cheering and Crying

It wasn’t long before they all realised just what had happened. It was time for the scratchcard winner and his friends to start cheering and jumping. Then began the process of letting his mother and his aunt his fantastic news. Doing that was even more emotional and the tears began to flow.

That’s not uncommon of course and National Lottery research proves that. A survey found that nearly a third of people would break down in tears if discovering a big lottery win.

When the scratchcard winner went to bed that night, there wasn’t a great deal of sleeping going on at first. “ I was so restless that I just sat on the edge of the bed most of the night until I finally fell asleep – and it was like this for the next few days."
