Sussex Father Wins Second Postcode Lottery Prize

Life has not been easy for the Tolhurst family in Sussex, England. Their daughter has been battling cancer but her father Paul has just won a £142,857 Postcode Lottery prize.

It’s the second time that the 61-year-old has been successful in the Postcode Lottery. He previously won £10,649 in 2014.

Making a difference

His daughter, Hayley, 30, has been undergoing chemotherapy for cervical cancer. Speaking about the Postcode Lottery win, the Gatwick Airport employee said it would  “definitely make a difference to her life and to my family’s lives.”   Cancer survivor Bill Puffett won a £60,000 Postcode Lottery prize.

Paul is used to loading luggage when working at Gatwick Airport and admits that he thinks about holidays all the time Now  he’s looking forward to his own holiday. He’ll be going away with his wife Jackie as they celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary.

His previous Postcode Lottery win allowed the couple to go to the Caribbean and the Amazon. This time, a flight and then going on a cruise are being planned.

Also winning a £142,857 Postcode Lottery prize has been Paul’s next-door neighbour Lee Bell. He works as a truck driver and was out on a job when his cheque was presented. He didn’t miss out though as his wife Sam made a video call to him.

Blown away

When seeing how much had been won, he admits to being “blown away” and nearly leapt out of his driver’s seat. Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson joked: “I think that was worth pulling the truck over." An Australian woman had to stop her car  after finding out about a $1 million Weekday Windfall win.

The win has come at just the right time as he is about to start a new job but one that pays a lower wage. It’s the quality of life that is more important to him after all the hours that he has to spend on the road. The couple want to move abroad when they retire and this will help them achieve that dream.
