Store Owners Celebrate Selling $1.73bn Winning Powerball Ticket
We’re yet to find out who won the $1.73 billion Powerball jackpot on October 1.. However, we do know who sold the winning ticket and doing so earned the store owner a $1 million bonus.
It was the Midway Market & Liquor store in Frazier Park, California. that sold the $1.73 billion winning Powerball ticket. That’s owned by May and Jacklin Khaili
So excited
May Khalil said that everyone at the store is “so excited.” The news that they’d sold the winning ticket came from Jacklin’s son. “I didn’t believe that. I thought he was joking,” said the shocked store owner. Then the celebrations began with plenty of tequila being drunk.
It’s been fairly hectic since that amazing sale. “The phone has been ringing off the hook,” said the busy store owner.
A local winner?
The wait continues for the winner(s) to come forward and claim their prize. They have 180 days to do so. One store employer believes it is a local player. The town only has 2,500 residents and people visit the store “religiously” to make their Powerball purchases.
For co-owner Nidal Khalil, he views this Powerball win as “the most exciting news ever (to) happen to Frazier Park.” He added that most of the local residents are retirees and hopes one of his regular customers has won the jackpot.
That is possible as Frazier Park isn’t that easy to get to. Clerk Janea Herrera commented: “We're not that close to the freeway so you have to go out of your way to come here.”
Talking about the area where the second-largest ever Powerball win took place. The clerk said: “It's a tight knit community, everybody knows each other.” But do they know if one of them is now a multi-millionaire? Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is $34 million.
