Spreadsheet Helps Win a $3m Mega Millions Prize
A retired aerospace engineer from New Mexico won $3 million in the April 28 Mega Millions draw. It’s the third win for Paul K who claims a spreadsheet helped him and has some helpful advice for other players.
Double success
Two years ago, the Albuquerque resident won $200 in a Powerball draw. The nature of his win was a rather strange one. The clerk that served him accidentally printed two tickets that both had the same numbers on them. Before that, he’d gone to Las Vegas and won $31,000.
This is by far his biggest win though and it could have been a lot more. His $3 million winning Mega Millions ticket was purchased from Albertsons #939 in Albuquerque. It managed to match all five of the main balls, namely 18-38-53-62-64. However, it was unable to match the all-important Mega Ball 20.
If his ticket had been able to match that ball he would have won the $38 million Mega Millions jackpot. His ticket was the only one able to win the second-tier prize.
Before the April 28 draw the Mega Millions jackpot had already been won twice that month. January had seen the top prize won four times and that included a $1,348 billion jackpot win.
The Mega Millions winner keeps track of his favourite numbers via the use of a spreadsheet. He knew even before checking the results that his selection had made him a lottery millionaire.
Plans for his $3 million Mega Millions win include paying off his home. He wants to make some investments and also plans on sharing some of his winnings with his family.
Some great advice
He has some tips for other players who want to follow in his footsteps: “Always use the same numbers and never change your numbers.” It certainly worked for him, perhaps it might do the same for you when buying tickets from Lottery24.
After a rollover in last night’s draw, the Mega Millions jackpot on Friday June 16 will be $284 million
