Spanish Sweet Shop Sells €162 million Winning EuroMillions Ticket
A ticket sold in Spain won the €162 million (£133 million) EuroMillions jackpot on Friday. It’s the largest top prize won by a Spanish ticket in seven years.
That was when a ticket won a €190 million jackpot in the draw held on October 6. Now almost seven years to the day, they’ve had another big winner.
The numbers drawn on Friday were: 04-08-16-17-20 with the two Lucky Stars 01 and 06. Those were all successfully matched by a ticket that was purchased in a small Spanish town.
Derio delight
It was the Amancio Gozokiak sweet shop in Derio that sold the EuroMillions jackpot winning ticket. That’s situated in the Basque Country of northern Spain and only has a population of 7,000.
The shop’s owners have commented on the fantastic win. They said: “People come here for treats and lottery tickets, for a bit of hope and excitement.”. No one has so far come forward to claim their magnificent winnings.
If they love playing lotteries, then perhaps they will also try their luck in the El Gordo de Navidad draw that takes place on December 22.
It’s the first EuroMillions jackpot win since September 6 when a ticket purchased in Belgium landed a €149 million top prize.
Lucky 13
This is the 13th time in 2024 that the EuroMillions jackpot has been won. Spain has sold two other EuroMillions jackpot winning tickets this year. In January, a ticket won €72 million and then in March there was a €130 million win in a EuroMillions Superdraw.
It’s the 121st EuroMillions jackpot winning ticket that has been sold by Spain. Only France and the UK have sold more in the history of this lottery. They have both sold 129 tickets that have won a EuroMillions jackpot.
Friday’s draw also saw some near misses as tickets matched the five main numbers but only one Lucky Star. 12 tickets each won €94,700 with two in the UK getting £67,914.
The next draw is on Tuesday with the jackpot returning to €17 million (£14 million).
