Set for Life Winner Thought She’d Won a Lucky Dip
Two years ago, Vicky Mitchell from Halifax in the North of England, thought she’d won a £5 Lucky Dip. Her life changed forever when discovering her win was actually a £10,000 a month for 30 years Set for Life prize.
The moment when the 44-year-old found out the true value of her win has been released by the National Lottery. The call was one of several “goosebump-worthy” reactions that had been recorded.
Another Fiver?
It was 6am that the admin assistant woke up and she was still a bit dozy when seeing an email from the National Lottery. Immediately she thought to herself, “great, it’s another fiver” and that was “better than nothing.”
When she logged into her account, it was clear her Set for Life win was a lot larger, and she went into “shock mode.” A few hours later she was able to call Camelot an received more surprises. It was a case of plenty of nervous laughter when told how big the Set for Life win was.
Security for the future
Her success was the fifth top prize in the Set for Life draw. A lot has happened in the two years since her fantastic win. The family has moved to a larger house and a new car has been purchased. Above all, the Set for Life windfall has been used sensibly. The fact the amount won is paid in monthly instalments has given the family “security for the future.”
Now Vicky loves the way she can shop. “It’s lovely to be able to go to the supermarket and not have to add up the bill in my head as I walk around, which was always the norm for me."
How would you celebrate a big win? Whether it’s a Set for Life win or perhaps winning this Friday’s £139m EuroMillions jackpot. One man who has seen it all is Andy Carter who is the senior winners advisor at the National Lottery.
He’s seen people jumping up and down, even fainting. “I’ve been there with winners when they reveal to family and friends that they’ve won,” said Mr Carter.
