Second Look Reveals $1.3m Gold Lotto Win
Winning a $1,300 lottery prize is bound to cause you delight. It did a young mother from Mackay in North Queensland, Australia. However, a second look at her Gold Lotto ticket revealed she’d actually won $1.3 million.
The lucky player was one of four that had a division one entry in the May 14 Gold Lotto win. Two winning tickets were sold in New South Wales and another in Victoria.
She recalled just how her mistake had been made. Her Gold Lotto ticket had been checked online and that’s when she thought her win was $1,300. That delighted her but she kept looking at the ticket and “I saw all the numbers lit up in a line.” At that point she realised her ticket had made her a millionaire and she went “all jittery.”
Her husband had gone out to get some lunch. The Gold Lotto winner tried to phone him but he wasn’t answering. His wife had to wait for him to get home before telling him what had happened. While she got the jitters, her husband couldn’t stop shaking.
Champagne at the ready
The couple soon began their celebrations. Luckily, there was a bottle of champagne in the fridge. It had been saved but they never imagined it’d be open once they became lottery millionaires.
It wasn’t until the following Monday that The Lott called her to chat about the win. “It's come at the best time for us and will make a tremendous difference to our lives,” said the Gold Lotto winner. Plans for the windfall include helping their family and saving for retirement.
The champagne may have been drunk but she was still in the mood to celebrate. Bacon and eggs were the next way to celebrate their lottery win now it was confirmed.
A lucky store
Their winning ticket was purchased from the News Central store in Mackay. Their co-owner Simon Pastega said they had already sold two division one wins in just three weeks. Last year a $50 million winning Australian Powerball ticket was sold by the lucky store.
