Same Numbers Used for Years Win $1m Gold Lotto Prize
Some players use the same lottery numbers for every single draw. A man from Queensland in Australia does just that and made an early morning discovery of a $1 million Gold Lotto win.
The lucky player lives in the outer suburbs of Brisbane. He was one of two plates who scooped $1 million in the January 17 Gold Lotto draw.
It was certainly an early morning shock for him. He woke up at 3am the day after the draw and decided to check his ticket and was shocked he’d finally won a first division prize.
I couldn’t believe it
“I just sat there looking at it. I couldn't believe it," said the Gold Lotto winner. Getting back to sleep was a virtually impossible task after that discovery.
“It's better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick, that's for sure,” he joked. Speaking about his win he revealed that he had been playing for “forever and a day” and always used the same selection.
The numbers weren’t special ones, though they certainly are now. “I don't know why I picked these numbers – I just picked them out of a hat," the Gold Lotto winner commented.
They had come close to winning him a division one prize in the past. However, he was agonizingly just one number away from a jackpot. That disappointment led to him thinking “that's the end of my chances of winning the lottery” but that wasn’t to be the case. Perhaps he’ll be lucky again in Thursday's $150 million Australian Powerball draw.
Too young to retire
Although he had just won $1 million and had a sleepless night, he still went to work. That’s something he plans to do in the future rather than retire saying:. “I'm a bit young to retire just yet but I'll be able to ease up a bit and enjoy life."
His winning Gold Lotto ticket was purchased from TSG Mount Warren News in Mount Warren Park. That’s owned by Anil Balia who was “overly excited” at finally selling a division one winning ticket.
