Salad Days Ahead for $1 million Mega Millions Winner

While out buying a salad Brant Edgington from Nebraska, USA, also purchased a Mega Millions ticket. He’s celebrating now after it won him $1 million in the March 22 draw.

The single father had gone to a Baker’s grocery store in Fremont to buy some salad for next day’s lunch.Then he made a last-minute decision to purchase a Mega Millions ticket.

There was someone ahead of him in the queue who had several tickets to be checked. Brant remained patient and it proved to be a great decision to make.

The March 22 draw had a $977 million jackpot and his ticket was able to match the five main balls drawn but missed out on the Mega Ball. Even so, he won a fantastic $1 million.  The Mega Millions jackpot rose to $1.13 billion before being won  by a ticket sold in New Jersey.

The lucky winner says that he doesn’t “play all that often.” Being a single parent, he has more important ways of spending his money. However, this purchase has changed his life forever.

Both his father and grandfather love playing lottery games. He only plays when the jackpot is really high and that was the case on this occasion.

Mr Edgington didn’t immediately check his Mega Millions ticket. It was the following Saturday when he returned to the store to see if it’d won anything. At first he had problems using the scanner. A clerk was asked to help him and “they disappeared for a minute,” said the surprised player.

Don’t pass out

Then the clerk returned with one of her colleagues and they both just stared at him. Then he was asked: “Don’t pass out when I tell you this.” The news of his $1 million Mega Millions win was finally revealed.

He’s now claimed his winnings but it doesn’t look as if it’s turned him into a regular lottery player. He isn’t sure that despite this great slice of luck he wants to continue playing. Friday’s draw has a $148 million jackpot.
