Retirement on the Way for $4.8 million Australian Set for Life Winner
Do you ever buy lottery tickets and then forget to check the results? A woman from Melbourne, Australia did. Then she received a phone call telling her she’d won a $4.8 million Set for Life prize and retirement is on its way.
The lucky player lives in the Greenvale area of Melbourne. Her ticket was the only division one winner in the August 22 Set for Life draw.
The $4.8 million will be paid to her at the rate of $20,000 a month for the next 20 years. That’s certainly something to look forward to.
The Set for Life winner doesn’t watch draws live. Her routine is to check results the morning after a draw. However, that didn’t happen this time and she completely forgot to check the results.
Her ticket was registered so that meant the lottery company knew who had won the top prize. Cue the most thrilling and shocking call this Victorian resident will ever receive.
“I can’t believe this.”
“Did I really win that? Oh my god!” said the Set for Life winner when told of her win. It obviously hadn’t sunk in as she said: “Oh my god. I can’t believe this.”
The delighted player is close to retirement age and now she and her husband can bring forward the date they stop working.
Tears in her eyes
So shocked was she that she exclaimed: “I’ve got tears in my eyes. I can’t see anything.” What is really amazing is that she doesn’t usually play the Set for Life draw. Australian Powerball is the one that is regularly played by her.
A recent small win in that lottery was used to enter the August 22 Set for Life draw and the rest is history. A Sydney couple changed the game they play and won a $40 million Oz Lotto jackpot.
Her next task was to let her husband and children know the sensational news. “I’m going to take my whole family on an overseas holiday!” said the jubilant player. Jokingly she said: “If you were here, I would give you a big hug!”
