Record $44.67 million NZ Powerball Win for Auckland Family
History was made in the August 10 NZ Powerball draw. A family from Auckland in New Zealand scooped $44.67 million, the highest ever win in the lottery.
Ten wins
That didn’t look to be the case when they won the $44.06 million jackpot. That equalled the previous record that was won eight years ago. However, this family had wins on ten lines so won even more money.
Each of their lines had the same main numbers but a different Powerball number was chosen. That meant the lines that didn’t win the jackpot still won them a total of $666,670.
It’s been a long wait for lottery success as they’ve been playing since 1987. For the past few years they have been using a combination of numbers that have special meaning to them.
One of the winners did see the New Zealand Powerball draw. She texted her daughter with the news that just one ticket had won the top prize.
Then she took another look at the numbers and began to get excited. ‘Do you know, I think I might have a few of these,” she thought to herself. Could their ticket even be the New Zealand Powerball jackpot winner?
What’s the password?
It took a while to find out as she had to reset her lottery account password having forgotten the original one. When watching the virtual draw all their numbers were circled and the winning music began to play.
Another New Zealand player was shocked when finding a $7.18 million winning NZ Powerball ticket in her handbag.
A celebration dinner took place the next day. Others in the restaurant were talking about the jackpot win. Her son commented in a hushed voice: “if only they knew.”
Plans are being made on how to use their winnings. Ensuring her children can buy their own homes is one ambition of their mother.
An overseas family holiday is also on her wish list. In the past, she’s only been abroad on a work trip. Some charitable donations will also be made.
