Record $160 million Australian Powerball Jackpot on Thursday

It’s going to be a record breaking week for Australian lotteries. Thursday October 27 sees a $160m Australian Powerball jackpot.

One player is already busy celebrating after winning $15.65 million in the October 19 Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw.  The winner has asked to remain anonymous but we do know they come from Liverpool in Western Sydney, New South Wales.

Long series of rollovers

There had been 64 consecutive rollovers before this big win. The winning lottery ticket had been purchased from the Liverpool Plaza Newsagency owned by Tai Ngo.

While the big winner hasn’t been talking about his win, the store owner has. He said that it comes five weeks after selling a 2nd prize winning ticket in the Lucky Lotteries draw. He admitted to being “surprised” and that selling a $15.65 million winning ticket was “unbelievable.”

Mr Ngo is already thinking about Thursday’s record breaking $160 million Australian Powerball draw. “We’d love to sell another major lottery prize winning ticket to a customer,” said the store owner.

Highest ever jackpot

Lotteries have been held in Australia for over 100 years. Never has there been a jackpot as high as Thursday’s. There have been nine draws in which the jackpot has been at least $100 million. Of those, eight were in the Australian Powerball lottery but now comes the largest of them all.
