Race against Time to Buy Winning €250,000 Lotto Plus 2 Ticket
A syndicate of teachers and school staff have won a €250,000 Lotto Plus 2 prize. However, the winners from Craigstown in Co Donegal in Ireland nearly missed out on the May 27 draw.
The 18-strong syndicate collected their Lotto Plus 2 prize last week and spoke about their success. Margaret Farren is in charge of the syndicate and she explained how she nearly forgot to buy a ticket for the draw.
Margaret had been on holiday on the North Antrim coast at the time. Suddenly she realised no ticket had been bought for the upcoming Lotto Plus 2 draw.
Mad dash
Fully aware that a ticket needed to be purchased, it became a race against time to do so. “I was getting worried as I needed to get back to Donegal to get it. By then, it was becoming a mad dash to find the best way back,” said the syndicate leader.
Luck was on her side though and the syndicate leader was able to get a ferry. It was still a rush though and eventually the Lotto Plus 2 ticket was purchased with only minutes remaining. Even then she encountered more problems. The number of tickets usually bought in one go wasn’t possible on this occasion.
Just the one ticket
Usually Margaret buys tickets for eight draws but was unable to do that at this store.. The machine in the shop could only sell her a ticket for the May 27 Lotto Plus 2 draw. At least that purchase had been made though.
Utter disbelief
It’s usually the case that their tickets aren’t checked immediately. However, with only one ticket being purchased, Margaret checked it the day after the Lotto Plus 2 draw. “To say it was utter disbelief would be an understatement,” she recalled.
Also collecting a huge lottery prize was a family syndicate, also hailing from Co Donegal. They had won a €6.3 million prize. They were one of two Irish Lotto winners who shared a €12,747,756 jackpot. The other winner was a man from Westmeath.
