£61m EuroMillions Winners Thought They’d Won £2.60
Richard and Debbie Nuttall from Colne in Lancashire, England, have come forward to claim their £61 million EuroMillions winnings. They admitted that initially their belief was only £2.60 had been won.
Their amazing success came in the draw held on January 30. Theirs was one of two EuroMillions tickets that matched the five main balls and the two Lucky Stars. The other winning ticket was sold in Spain.
In all, Richard and Debbie (both aged 54) have won £61,708,231. Their win was discovered while celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary in Fuerteventura.
Bacon butty
Initially Mr Nuttall saw that their EuroMillions account had gone up by £2.60, enough to buy a bacon butty. Later in the day an email was received and then the discovery of their £61 million win was discovered.
Totally stunned
They were “totally stunned” but worried it might be a mistake or a scam. Once they got a phone signal they contacted the National Lottery and their fantastic win was confirmed. Cue a lot of jumping up and down in their car seats and thumping the dashboard. “The car must have been rocking,” joked Richard.
The EuroMillions winners say that they are “going to have some fun” with their £61 million prize. That will include plenty of rounds of golf and holidays in the sun including Barbados.
The spending has already started with Debbie buying some new bedding and an expensive hair dryer. Her husband has already bought some golf clubs and a new bag to put them in.
Charitable donations
They also want to help their friends and the charity BK’s Heroes which was founded by Mrs Nuttall’s late cousin and has raised nearly £250,000. The couple are ambassadors for the charity that funds research into kidney disease and brain cancer.
Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot is £14 million after a French ticket won a €73.4 million jackpot. It’s also been revealed that the next €130 million EuroMillions Superdraw will take place on March 15.
