£2,000 Win Turned out to be £1.21m Postcode Lottery Prize
The winner of a record £1,210,914 Postcode Lottery prize only thought he’d won £2,000 at most.
Kevin, 58, from Llandrindod Wells in Powys, Wales was one of several winners in January’s £3.2 million Postcode Millions draw. He’s currently unemployed and has sleep apnoea and emphysema.
Speaking about his win, he said that the day before he received his Postcode Lottery prize, his stepfather John told him he’d win a big prize and joked he should buy a Bentley. Kevin didn’t know how much he’d won at that stage and thought it might be £2,000 tops.
Speechless
He’d purchased three tickets but wasn’t quite sure how the Postcode Lottery worked. When being presented with three envelopes, each containing a cheque for £406,638 he was in shock. “Oh my days! I don't believe that. I'm speechless."
He added: “I forgot all about the other two cheques after seeing the first one. I feel a bit greedy now, to be honest.” A New Zealand couple thought they’d won $8,333 on the Lotto but it was actually $8.33 million.
Now he’s discovered that he’s won over a million pounds, he joked about what his stepfather had said: “I might just rent a Bentley and take him out for the day."
A new home and garden
He now plans to move from his top-floor flat and knows exactly where he wants to live next. He’s always dreamed of living in a posh chalet in Sunny Haven Park which is near to where he currently resides.
Other plans for his Postcode Lottery winnings include going to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. He’ll be going there in July and he’ll be celebrating his 59th birthday. He supports Liverpool FC and now plans on going to Anfield for the first time.
A new car is on its way too but it’ll be “a version of a much-loved car from the past” rather than a brand new one.
Setting up a trust for his relatives is also planned and to help his brother with some home improvements.
