£1 million EuroMillions Winner Publishes Autobiography
It was ten years ago when Desiree Home from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England saw her life changed. A £1 million EuroMillions prize was won and a decade later she’s now published her life-story.
It’s an emotional story as the EuroMillions winner is a bowel cancer survivor. The 66-year-old says that her big win rescued her from the “depths of despair.”
Financial woes
Her bowel cancer was diagnosed in 2008 and during her treatment she ‘died’ twice when having respiratory failure. More health problems followed for both herself and husband Wayne. They both lost their jobs. With debts mounting, they had no choice but to sell their home.
Then in August 2014, her husband telephoned Desiree with news of a £500,000 EuroMillions win. Not long after, he called again and told her the win was actually £1 million.
The couple celebrated their win and it was suggested to her she write her life-story. Ten years later her book ‘And Then’ has finally been published and is available on Amazon.
In the past decade, the couple have been able to tick off several items on their bucket list. There’s been snorkeling in the Maldives and purchasing a motorboat. Jonathan Aldridge from Crawley in Sussex, England also had serious health problems before his £133,000 EuroMillions win.
Hope
While there are still health problems to face, the EuroMillions winner hopes her book will be of help to its readers. As she says and knows only too well, “even in the depth of despair there really can be hope."
It’s a fascinating book with plenty to tell even before her EuroMillions win. There are stories of her time in the armed services, meeting her husband and “the trials and tribulations” of raising three children.
“I didn’t for one minute think I could write it all down in a book,” said the EuroMillions winner. Desiree added: “Neither did I think I would ever be a cancer survivor or hold a National Lottery cheque for £1 million.”
Tomorrow’s EuroMillions draw has a £51 million jackpot.
