Powerball Jackpot Unclaimed After Huge Win
With the Powerball Jackpot unclaimed there is still plenty of mystery surrounding last week's winner. A ticket sold in New Berlin, Wisconsin, USA, won the top prize but the winner is yet to come forward. The lucky player saw their ticket successfully match 16-20-37-44-62 and the Powerball 12, to achieve the Powerball jackpot win. “It’s going to be a very green spring for our first Powerball jackpot winner of 2019,” said David Barden, Powerball Product Group chairman and New Mexico Lottery CEO.
Big Decision to Make
Whoever has this Powerball jackpot win has a major decision to make. They can either receive their winnings as an annuity paid over three decades or accept their windfall as a one-off payment of $477m which will then be subject to tax payments of over $170m.Nearly a week has passed since the Powerball jackpot win, but we still have no idea who the winner is. Once a win of this size comes along, it’s a massive shock to the recipient.
Powerball jackpot unclaimed for what reason?
Perhaps the jackpot winner is taking some time to get used to becoming a multi-millionaire. It took the winner of last October’s $1.5bn Mega Millions jackpot several months to claim their winnings.Financial planner Dan Routh says that a win of this size carries with it a “big responsibility.” He added that for the Powerball winner to employ “a quality team that’s working in your best interest.”Legal help and financial planning are vital for big winners. Jason Kurland, who works for a law firm in New York, regularly helps lottery winners. He said that when they first contact him, “I can hear the anxiety in their voice.”
No Anonymity
He added that many don’t even want to initially reveal their real name. The $1.5bn Mega Millions jackpot winner remained anonymous but that won’t happen for this big win. Wisconsin doesn’t allow that so sooner or later we will find out who’s had the big Powerball jackpot.
