Player Takes Nearly a Year to Discover Lottery Win
How often do you check your lottery tickets? Do you buy on impulse and have you had a day where nothing goes wrong? Here’s some great stories from around the world.
Long wait to discover win
Often a player watches a lottery draw live and immediately knows if they are a winner. Not so a woman from New York, USA. Genine Plummer took a year to discover her $1,000 a week for life Cash4Life win from May 2022.
The New Yorker simply didn’t check her ticket. Only when reading a news release saying the expiry date was fast approaching, did she finally do so.
Doing so gave Genine the surprise of her life. "I'm just in shock with everything and amazed," said the surprised winner.
Impulse buy
Not everyone goes out with the intention of buying a lottery ticket. A man from Ellenbrook in Western Australia was waiting for his girlfriend to finish her shopping.. While waiting he decided to buy a Wednesday Lotto ticket and it won him $1 million.
He’s the tenth Western Australia player this year to become a lottery millionaire. Lotterywest spokesman James Mooney joked: “I’m sure our latest millionaire will never complain about waiting in a line again.”
Best day of his life
June 22 is a day that Nick Miller from Iowa, USA, will never forget. The 31-year-old had proposed to his girlfriend and she said yes. Later that day he was on the way to work and decided to buy a Super 7s Progressive InstaPlay ticket.
He went back to his truck and then checked the lottery results. His lucky day was complete when discovering his ticket had won him £390,101. It was the first time the top prize had been won since April.
The news was kept quiet for a week even though he and his fiancé were on a family holiday. Not surprisingly he sees his lottery win as a great way to begin his engagement. "I'm ready for the next parts of life, I guess!" he said when claiming his winnings.
