Overnight stay in the van for $333,000 NZ Jackpot Winning Ticket

The May 18 NZ Lotto draw saw three tickets each win $333,000. One of the winners is a woman from Paraparaumu on the Kāpiti Coast and her winning ticket had spent the night left in her van.

The Paraparaumu winner has asked to remain anonymous but has spoken about her NZ Lotto success.  She’s a regular player of the draw and as is her routine, had purchased a Power Dip hoping a big prize would be won.

It wasn’t until the morning after the draw that her ticket was checked. Little did she know how much that ticket left in her van was worth. Then she started to check the results on her phone and began to circle the matching numbers on her ticket. “I had a couple here and there, and then on one of the lines I matched three, then four, then five numbers,” said the shocked NZ Lotto winner.

Happily sick

Then came the surprise of her life. “The last number was there too – I couldn’t believe my eyes. I felt sick, but happily sick.” Her ticket had successfully matched 01-07-23-29-31-37 to share the top prize.

 It took her a little while to calm down and then came the task of calling her husband with the news. He just kept repeating “Really?”

The rest of the day was spent discussing how to spend their NZ Lotto winnings. They also found a nice place to eat where they could “toast the win.” Plans for their windfall include buying a new car.

Instantly recognised

Also winning were a couple from Waikanae. They watched the live draw on their television. Having used the same numbers for many years, the husband instantly recognised them.

The wife couldn’t quite believe they had won. However, her husband had recorded the NZ Lotto draw. She held their ticket while he replayed the draw.

With the win confirmed, they began to celebrate with coffee and a nice biscuit. The couple now wants to use some of their NZ Lotto winnings on refurbishing their house.
