A pair of police officers from Hamilton, Ontario, have become some of the latest winners in Canada’s national Lotto 6/49 game as they took home $5 million.Constables Tara Vallentgoed and Sarah McGregor won their cheque worth just over $5 million after their lottery tickets matched all of the numbers in the Canadian Lotto 6/49 draw on May 30th. The cops, who have both been with the force for more than ten years, have insisted that their new millionaire status would not change who they are.Ms McGregor has worked with the Hamilton Police Service for ten years, and she recently received recognition for her work with ProAction Cops and Kids, a local organisation that works to help improve relationships between young people and the police force. Her colleague, Ms Vallentgoed, has been with the service for more than 12 years, and as a big lover of animals, she said that she will be investing time and money in making a difference in the well-being of animals.Speaking to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation the two co-workers said that they plan to spend their Lotto 6/49 money on home renovations as well as travel and pursuing their interests further. The Hamilton Police Service has praised its lottery winning constables as being among the most committed in the service.“Both are members of the ICE (Internet Child Exploitation) Unit. That unit is tasked to investigate some of the most serious crimes including the online sexual exploitation of children and other Internet related crimes,” read a statement from the police service about their lucky Lotto 6/49 winning cops, neither of whom even thought about leaving work after the win.About a year ago, a part time police officer won his fortune on the Powerball lottery game in Pennsylvania, USA, and also continued to work.The pair had been buying lottery tickets together for less than a year, and they were reportedly on a break at work when they took their ticket to a local store to get it checked. After the words “Big Winner” showed up on the ticket checker, they took the ticket to the cashier who scanned it and saw the machine shut down in front of her.
