A lottery winner who o won $6 million on the Lotto 649 in Canada last year has been locked in a legal battle with his ex-girlfriend and is now suing the provincial lottery agency.Maurice Thibeault, from Chatham in Ontario, Canada, won his $6.1 million Lotto 649 prize last Autumn, but half of it was withheld by the OLG as they investigated whether his ex-girlfriend was entitled to half of it. A Canadian Lottery player was so happy whe she won $127,000 on the Lotto Max that she named her unborn baby after the game.Now, the Lotto 649 winner is suing the corporation that deals with lottery claim investigations claiming that their investigation was negligent. Recently an Irish Lotto player was awarded one sixth of a €3.38 million win after he was in a legal battle with a syndicate which won.The $6 million winner is asking for $250,000 in damages from the lottery corporation for their negligent investigation and “interference in contractual relations,” while he’s asking for another $500,000 for punitive damages and $75,000 for special damages including the cost of his legal fees for both court battles. “Maurice is suing for, in effect, negligent investigation,” said the Lotto 649 winner’s layer, adding that they don’t believe the lottery corporation carried out the investigation according to statute and regulations. Recently a syndicate from Ajax in Ontario shared a huge $1 million prize on the Lotto 649, while a group of lottery players from Burlington, also in Ontario, took home $172,000 on the Lotto Max.Mr Thibeault, in a statement within the claim, said that the lottery corporation did not conduct a thorough investigation and di not collect or analyse potential evidence, and that if they had, he “would not be in this mess.” The situation all began when Mr Thibeault won his $6.1 million Lotto 649 prize in September last year, and his ex-girlfriend claimed that they had an agreement to share winnings.Denise Robertson said that the pair frequently bought Lotto 649 tickets together and agreed to share any purchases.
