Numbers Used for 30 Years win £1 million Lotto Prize
Christmas is a special time of the year for many. The Cobb family from Peterborough in England formed a lottery syndicate 30 years ago and have now won a £1 million Lotto prize.
The family have been playing the same numbers since Christmas 1994. Their patience finally paid off with a big win in the July 20 Lotto draw. Another player in Peterborough won a £235,293 Postcode Lottery prize.
The syndicate leader is David, 67 who has spoken about their lottery success. The other members of the syndicate are his sisters Carol and Sandra and their mother Audrey who is 87.
It was his wife Linda who first saw a message from the National Lottery about a £1 million Lotto win. Linda said to her husband, “David, I think you’d better have a look at this.”
That voice
Her husband admits that he was feeling “a bit grumpy” at the time and didn’t immediately get his glasses. Linda used “that '' voice, the one that means you have to do something. When he read the message he was lost for words.
David joked that telling his sisters about their Lotto win has made him “the favourite big brother.” Each of the players will receive £250,000. The past 30 years has seen them have some small wins but nothing approaching this level
When his sister Sandra was told the news, she was on her allotment at the time. She was so shocked at the news that another gardener had to check on her to make sure she didn’t faint.
For Carol, her £250,000 puts an end to her housing problems and has already found a house to buy. Sanda plans on buying a new car with some of her Lotto winnings.
Icing on the cake
David has always said that one day they’d win a big lottery prize. “I’ve been waiting for this moment,” said the delighted winner. He added that sharing it with his family “is the icing on the cake” and the winnings will also help other family members.
