Numbers Chosen by Children Wins $1m Mega Millions Prize

Do you choose your own lottery numbers? David Morris from Pineville in North Carolina doesn’t and the selection chosen by his children won him a $1 million Mega Millions prize.

His big win came in the August 4 draw and was one number short of winning the $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot. In the end it was his son who chose the selection. It managed to match the five main balls 11-30-45-52-56 but missed out on the Mega Ball 20. His son really needs to try harder with any future selections.

David isn’t a regular Mega Millions player but with the jackpot so high he decided to buy a ticket.

He didn’t see the Mega Millions draw live so had no idea his ticket had won $1 million. Then he heard that a second-tier winning prize had been won by a ticket sold in Pineville. No one had claimed the $1 million, so could he be the winner?

Hyperventilating

His ticket was finally checked and it had indeed won $1 million. Recalling how he felt when discovering his win, he said: “I started hyperventilating.”  Immediately he called his wife’s workplace and asked her “to come home right away.”

After paying state and federal taxes, John was left with $712,50.  Plans for their winnings include buying some land in the Smoky Mountains. His wife will help with the choice as that’s where she comes from.

Triumphant trucker

Also winning $1 million in the August 4 Mega Millions draw was Byron Eash from North Lewisburg in Ohio but that’s not where he bought his winning ticket.

He’s a trucker and regularly drives between Ohio and Nebraska. During his trips he stops for some refreshments in Oakland, Nebraska. This month he also purchased a Mega Millions ticket and it won him $1 million.

The lucky winner is only an occasional player but plans to ensure he keeps buying tickets in Oakland. That’ll include some for tonight’s Mega Millions draw which has a $36 million jackpot.
