New Numbers Land $50 million Australian Powerball Jackpot
The $100 million Australian Powerball jackpot on Thursday was shared by two tickets. One of the winners is already planning a Christmas spending spree.
The lucky Australian Powerball winners are a couple from Queensland and will receive a fantastic $50 million.
Their ticket had been registered so The Lott (who organize and operate the draw) knew who one of the winners were. They gave the Australian Powerball winners a phone call but they weren’t quite expecting the news they received.
Their initial thought was that they were being contacted by a telemarketer who wanted to chat about whether their house had solar panels. How wrong could they be?
The female half of the winning couple said she was in disbelief, adding: “I can’t believe it. This doesn’t happen to us.” Well, it did and the couple are now multi-millionaires.
Quickpick does the trick
They have asked to remain anonymous but we do know that they are grandparents. The lucky player says that she’s a regular Australian Powerball player and always used the same numbers. However, the one time that a QuickPick was used, along came the $50 million win.
A man from Victoria, Australia changed his numbers and ended up winning a $795,000 TattsLotto prize.
Icing on the cake
Speaking further about this win, the grandmother said: “We've been pretty happy in life, but this is the icing on the cake." The couple plan on spending a portion of their Australian Powerball jackpot on a Christmas spending spree. Their family members are going to get some very special presents next month.
Their winning ticket was purchased from the Card & Paper Shop in North Rockhampton which is owned by Janet Dingley. “It feels wonderful to know we've played a role in completely changing someone's life,” said the store owner. This is the tenth division one winning ticket the store has sold.
The other $50 million winning ticket wasn’t registered but the prize has been claimed by a man in his 20s from Melbourne.
