New National Lottery Licence Holders Unveil Future Plans

Allwyn have been talking about how they will change the National Lottery. They will take over the licence in February 2024 replacing the current holders Camelot.

One of the reasons Camelot weren’t given the new National Lottery licence was concerns over the amounts raised for good causes. Allywn have pledged that they will more than double the amount that is raised.

The UK Gambling Commission made the decision to grant the new National Lottery licence to Allywn. Camelot and IGT had also applied and were planning to appeal the decision in the courts. Both companies decided to withdraw their appeal, so now Allywn are free to take over in 2024.

The amount given to good causes last year by the National Lottery was £1.8bn. This gets distributed to local groups, heritage projects, sports and others that make an application for funding.

Allwyn will have a 10-year licence and they say that £38bn will be raised in that period. Other plans include introducing new games.

Improved player experience

Justin King is the Chairman of Allywn. Speaking about their plans for the National Lottery,  he promised “exciting plans for this important and cherished institution.” He added that they will be “improving the player experience through the latest technology and ensuring safe participation.”

Between now and February 24 they will be working with Camelot “to ensure the lottery is in its best ever shape” when Allwyn “take the reins.”

Jobs safe

They have confirmed that the National Lottery headquarters will remain in Watford, England. They will be opening an office in Iveco House, which can be found above the Watford Junction railway station. Over 900 people are employed by Camelot but Allwyn have confirmed their jobs are safe.

Investment will be made in retailers and this will help support the recovery of high streets in the UK. They will also be working alongside strategic partners Scientific Games and Vodafone.

An important task will be to make it a priority to protect lottery players. This will see priority placed on those that may be having problems with their playing. Safer draw-based games will be introduced.
