NEW BRUNSWICK TRUCKER CLAIMS $1 MILLION ATLANTIC 49 WIN
A truck driver from New Brunswick in Canada has claimed a $1 million prize on an Atlantic 49 ticket he purchased while on Prince Edward Island.Darren Shannon, from Marysville, New Brunswick, made a pit stop at a Reads Corner store in Summerside, P.E.I. while he was working, and won the $1 million prize in the Atlantic 49 drawing on February 28th. The winner said that he didn’t realise his $1 million win until mid-March, several weeks after the drawing took place. Earlier this year a woman from Prince Edward Island won $1 million on the Atlantic 49 lottery thanks to mess that birds made on her car.Mr Shannon told Atlantic 49 officials that he initially checked the ticket himself comparing it to the winning draw numbers, but thought he’d only won $50, so he put the ticket away for a few weeks. “I was in the store near home and the girl asked me if I was going to buy my tickets,” he told lottery officials, adding that he then realised he hadn’t checked several tickets from past drawings.“I got her to check all the tickets I had with me,” he said. All of the tickets were five in total, and three out of those five didn’t win anything, while one was worth $5. The last ticket to be checked turned out to be worth much more than $50 when the store clerk revealed that it had actually won $1 million. A 72-year-old scratch card winner from Iowa initially thought she’d won $5,000 when her ticket was actually worth $50,000.“After that I kept the ticket in my wallet and slept with my clothes on!” the Atlantic 49 winner laughed. “I’m excited. It’s a dream.”Now that the $1 million Atlantic Lottery winnings are in his bank account, the lucky winner said that he’d already hired a financial planner to help him make the right decisions about his winnings, and he hopes to invest most of it. Last year a scratch card winner from Maryland planned to invest his $1 million winnings in a business idea. However, Darren does hope to splurge a little by taking a trip somewhere and buying a new car. A car was also on the shopping list for a Canadian lotto 649 winner from Atlantic Canada after he won over $9 million. However, unlike another Atlantic Canada truck driver who quit his job within hours of winning $1 million on the national Lotto 649, Mr Shannon doesn’t plan to quit anytime soon: “I plan to keep working, I’m too young to retire,” he finished.Take the first step towards your lottery windfall and purchase your tickets online at Lottery24.com.
