New Advertisement Promotes the El Gordo de Navidad Draw

It might be a difficult task to catch a falling star this Christmas. You might actually have a better chance of winning a big prize in the El Gordo de Navidad draw which is being held a month today.

Why mention trying to catch a falling star? Well that is the song you will hear being played in this year’s El Gordo de Navidad advertisement. Last year the  El Gordo de Navidad advertisement had the theme ‘the draw that brings us together.’

The December 22 El Gordo de Navidad draw has a top prize of €4 million per series. Each of those is split into tenths so those who are lucky enough to hold one will win €400,000 just in time for Christmas. The draw has a total prize fund of €2.702 billion so  buy a ticket from Lottery24 now.

The advertisement tells the story of Julián (played by Amadeo Martin) who lives in a rural village where nobody else lives anymore and buys a lottery ticket. When interviewed by a reporter Julián says he has no one to share his ticket with. Those who hear this begin to go onto social media and declare they will share their tenth with him, but he has no idea this is happening.

‘This is for you too’

When he does finally find out, it’s after the draw has taken place. Watching television he sees complete strangers who have had wins and declaring: “This is for you too.”

The El Gordo de Navidad advertisement (which can be seen on YouTube) has been created by Proximity Madrid. They say: "Through Julián, we show how an entire country is organized to help one person” and also examines “the abandonment of rural areas.”

Solidarity

The revealing of the advertisement took place on November 14. Jesús Huerta is the president of State Lotteries and betting. He revealed he’d had some doubts over whether there should be a celebration held after the recent tragic floods and resulting deaths in Spain. However, he came to the conclusion that “solidarity is more necessary than ever at this time.”
