National Lottery Help Love Your Local Theatre Campaign

The theatre industry has had a terrible time during the pandemic. Theatres have either been closed or had capacities restricted. March will see a 2-for-1 ticket Love Your Local Theatre campaign with help from the National Lottery.

Anyone buying a ticket for a performance on selected dates at a participating theatre will receive another free ticket, thanks to the National Lottery

Nationwide Campaign

Over 100 theatres around the UK are participating and this includes theatres from Glasgow in Scotland to Brighton the south coast of England. The National Lottery will be subsidising over 150,000 tickets during next month at the cost of £2 million. This is their way of saying thank you to players of the National Lottery who raise £30 million for good causes every week.

Theatres have had such a difficult time over the past couple of years. Now theatres are open again, there is still the threat of shows being cancelled if someone goes down with Covid.

It’s also a struggle to get audience numbers back to pre-pandemic levels. Many people still don’t feel confident enough to return to the theatres. It’s hoped that this campaign will help tempt people back to seeing the great shows that are on offer at UK theatres.

Something for all the family

Shows that can be seen include ‘Beautiful,’ ‘Hairspray,’ ‘Circus of Horrors’ and ‘Peppa Pig’s Best Day Ever.’ so something for all the family thanks to the National Lottery.

The President of UK Theatre is Stephanie Sirr. Speaking about the campaign, she said that they are “delighted to be working with The National Lottery on Love your Local Theatre.” The President added that this is the first time their members have worked together on such a massive ticket promotion.

Why should the campaign be supported?  Stephanie Sirr says we should be “hugely proud in this country to have such an extensive, vibrant and diverse range of regional theatres.” After all the problems caused by the pandemic, now is the time to “shout about the fact that theatres are open and ready to reward audiences for their patience and loyalty.”
