National Lottery Grants Fund Coronation Celebrations in Scotland

There’s going to be a great weekend of Coronation celebrations all over the UK. In Lanarkshire, Scotland, special events will be taking place thanks to nearly £44,000 in National Lottery funding.

Saturday May 6 sees the Coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla. It comes nearly 70 years on from the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away in 2022.

For millions of people it will be their first experience of a Coronation. 15 groups in Lanarkshire have received National Lottery funding. Events taking place will include everything from garden parties to afternoon tea events.

Those hosting events will include schools, community and faith groups and neighbours all celebrating this historic occasion.

Put the bunting up

Thanks to the National Lottery funding, it’s going to be a day that Glenmavis will never forget. Groups have received £6580 and this will see residents being brought together to celebrate the Coronation.

The Airdrie village will be decorated with bunting and flags as residents celebrate. There will also be cream tea boxes given to older members of the community so they can mark the occasion at home. Those delicious boxes will also be distributed by the Lesmahagow Community Fairies who help those aged 75 or over in their community.

.A three-course lunch will be held by the Muslim Welfare Society at  the Lanarkshire mosque in Bellshill with all welcome. They received £6500 from the National Lottery.

Memories to share

It’s not just going to be a weekend of celebrations. Community Action Newarthill will be holding a series of gatherings for local residents in the week after the Coronation. There’ll be lots of memories to share thanks to a £1600 National Lottery grant.

Also holding a Coronation event will be the St Andrew’s Hospice. Patients, families, staff and volunteers will be holding celebratory social events after being awarded £2800 by the National Lottery.

There’s a two-day celebration held by Airdrie organisation CABIA (Counselling and Benefits in Action). This will include food and entertainment aimed at those who “are the most marginalised and isolated.”
