It wasn’t until a few days after the December 14 draw that he checked his tickets. He’d got down to the last two of around 15 tickets and it wasn’t going well. Then he checked the Powerball ticket he’d bought for himself and the lottery machine told him his ticket had won $50,000.

Crying

In disbelief he thought to himself ‘nah, this machine is messed up.’ He took his Powerball ticket to a store clerk and his fantastic win was confirmed. “All I could do was stand there and cry,” said the shocked Powerball winner.

That was a lucky draw for another ticket purchased in New York as  it won the $256 million Powerball jackpot.

Money isn't everything

Five days before Christmas Day, he claimed his Powerball winnings at lottery HQ in Louisville. Money isn’t everything and the festive period can be difficult for those who have lost loved ones.

After paying taxes, he received a cheque for $36,000. When asked about his spending plans, he said: “I would give this money up if I could get just one more Christmas with my mother” who sadly passed away three years ago.

He does plan to pay off his RV and save the rest of his Powerball winnings.
