Missed Calls were news of $25m Oz Lotto Win
Do you ever miss calls on your phone or just ignore them? A woman did that, not realising the calls were trying to tell her she’d won a $25m Oz Lotto prize in the January 25 draw.
If tickets are registered, then the Lotto bosses know who has won a prize, so they give them a call. That was the case on January 25 when two tickets sold in Western Australia and Queensland shared the $25m Oz Lotto jackpot.
It was the winner from Rockhampton in Queensland that proved difficult to contact. The woman who is in her 40s had her phone on silent as she regularly receives scam texts. That meant she didn’t check her calls.
Oz Lotto spokesman Matt Hart said that “eventually” got in touch and was shocked to discover her $12.5m win. “She was screaming, shaking and crying out to other family members who were asleep,” said Mr Hart.
Still in her pyjamas
The lucky winner had only just woken up. She was still in her pyjamas when told she’d become an Oz Lotto millionaire. Such was her joy she told how she’d cuddled her family three times while on the phone.
She’d even joked with her husband that it might be ‘The Lott’ calling her. “Trust me, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d win this amount,” said the Oz Lotto winner.
It’s a win that has come at just the right time. The lucky player said: “We haven’t been having much fun in recent time – now, we’re going to have a nice life.” “I think this has completely derailed my day. I'll be looking at this ticket all day,” she added.
No more ancient old car
Her husband currently drives an “ancient old car,” now a new one is going to be bought. Then the couple plan on moving to a new home. The Oz Lotto winner is still struggling to come to terms with her win. “I can only think of practical things at the moment. It just doesn't feel real.”
