Over 500 residents from Chelmsford in Essex, England are celebrating sharing a £3.2 million Postcode Lottery prize. For one of the big winners it was a success tinged with a degree of sadness but also gratitude.

Out of this world

Former Royal Marine Alan won £396,694 but it was his late wife Diana who sorted out his Postcode Lottery ticket. The blind father-of-one said that his wife “would be absolutely out of this world.”

He described his win as “a miracle” and believes the woman he was married to for 53 years is “looking out” for him. He’s now looking forward to going on his first holiday since his wife passed away in 2020.

Doing so will bring back many memories as he wants to revisit places he went to with his wife. These will include Jersey and Guernsey.  He’s currently on the waiting list for a guide dog and wants to give some of his winnings to a blind charity to “help others like me.”

Postcode Lottery baby?

Newlyweds Kate and Claire will use some of their £4,477 cheque to pay for Kate’s fertility treatment. Her partner said: “It would be amazing to have a Postcode Lottery baby. But we don’t dare to dream.”

Also planned for their Postcode Lottery winnings is to pay for the one-week cruise to the Norwegian fjords that they recently booked. The couple were married last year and believed they’d only won £1,000. After finding out it was more than that, Claire said “This money is going to make a huge difference.”

Back to Barbados

For Dean his win was £13,431 as he had three tickets. It’s his second Postcode Lottery win after success ten years ago. That £28,000 win only lasted a month before it had all been spent. It was used wisely though with the winnings spent on a holiday to Barbados, a garden spa and a car.

Now he’s planning a return trip to Barbados with his ex-wife Julie and their two children, Alfie and Amy.
