MERSEYSIDE GREAT-GRANDDAD LUCKS OUT IN £50,000 WIN
A great-granddad from Southport has found himself on the receiving end of a lucky wind, as he scooped over £50,000 on the EuroMillions lottery last weekend.Winning the prize in the draw on Friday, May 9th, retired builder Keith Birtles matched numbers 3, 21, 26, 28 and 45 in the EuroMillions draw, missing out only on the lucky star numbers which would have won him the advertised jackpot. The 70 year old from Scarisbrick, near Southport was presented with an oversized cheque at lottery headquarters and spoke of how he felt as he realised he had won big.“I just started to shake uncontrollably,” said Mr Birtles as he realised his ticket matched all of the five main numbers. “I can’t believe it at all, it hasn’t really sunken in yet.” Mr Birtles is father to two sons, five grandchildren and one great grandchild and says that it will be nice to be able to treat his family now that he has some extra cash. The lottery winner told the local press that he has already started spending the money in his head, and in fact he has placed an order for a new silver Mercedes E320. Joking that he would not be sharing a penny of his money, Mr Birtles eventually admitted that he has already decided how much money he will be sharing with his nearest and dearest.“Peter, my eldest son will be getting the car I have now,” he said, adding that he will also pay for some work to be done on it, while also giving his youngest son, Michael, the same amount in cash. He will also give some money to his grandchildren, but perhaps in savings rather than in disposable cash! The European lottery winner said that the last few days have been a whirlwind, and he hasn’t been able to get any sleep since his big win. He said, however, that luck has never been on the side of his family, and he now feels as if they are getting their reward for their patience.“This is a turn in our luck, the golden eagle flew over me,” he said, adding that he won’t stop playing the lottery just because he has won big. Mr Birtles has been playing the UK Lotto and the EuroMillions since they started, but he’ll be changing his numbers now that he has won once. The jackpot in the next EuroMillions draw on Friday 16th May is worth £34m, so don’t forget to purchase your tickets online at Lottery24.com.
