The festive celebrations are all but over but not quite. January 6 sees the El Niño draw take place in Spain. With a prize fund of €700 million it could see you starting 2023 with a massive boost to your finances.
The El Niño draw is a traditional Spanish lottery. Everyone can play and tickets can be purchased from Lottery24, so get one now. It’s a lottery that is held every year on January 6 but what’s the significance of that date?
This lottery began way back in 1941 but it wasn’t until 1999 that the date was changed to the 6th of January rather than the 5th. Now it’s held on a date that is of extreme religious importance in Spain.
January 6th is the date when it is believed that the Three Kings from the East finally gave their gifts to the baby Jesus. If winning the El Niño then perhaps you’ll be able to afford some Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
The Child
The English translation of El Niño is ‘The Child’ and the winning numbers are drawn out by children. There are some fantastic prizes to be won in this draw which has a slightly different format than we’re used to with the weekly draws seen on Lottery24.
There are 100,000 tickets that are numbered from 00000 to 99999. 50 copies of each ticket are printed and split into ten shares. The most common method employed by players is to buy a tenth share which is known as decimos.
Prizes Galore to be won
The top prize in the El Niño draw is €2 million and if owning a tenth, that sees you winning €200,000. There are plenty more prizes to be won with the prize fund for the second tier being €750,000 and for third, €250,000. Therefore, it’s well worth buying a ticket from Lottery24.
The draw takes place in Madrid at midday on January 6th. Playing the El Niño draw could be a great way to start 2023.
