“Magic does happen” says £133,000 EuroMillions Winner
Jonathan Aldridge from Crawley in Sussex, England, has won a £133,000 EuroMillions prize on June 17. The even better news for the winner is that this time it’s not a joke.
The 32-year-old recalled how when he was just six, an April Fool’s joke was played on him. His parents told him that they’d won a lottery jackpot.
April Fool’s Joke
His four brothers cheered but Jonathan started crying as he didn’t want to move house. The jokes have continued since so he was a bit suspicious when news of his own win came.
A message was received telling him of his win. However, he couldn’t see any additional funds in his account and wondered if it was another joke.
It’s not been an easy life for the EuroMillions winner. At the age of 17 he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a rare form of cancer.
He had to undergo months of treatment, including chemotherapy. It’s an experience he’ll never forget as some of his fellow patients sadly passed away. His outlook is that he has to live the very best life.
There is hope
Accountant Jonathan could have kept his identity secret. He decided to go public to “show other people who may be going through a tough time that there is hope, and that magic does happen.”
Breast cancer survivor Donna Osbourne from Pennsylvania, USA, recently won a $5 million lottery prize.
Plans for his EuroMillions win include traveling more as when he was in hospital he thought wouldn’t be possible. He also wants to “build a bigger deposit for a home.”
Also planned is to help his family as thanks for the support they have given him in recent years. That began with a slap-up meal for them all.
Jonathan supports English Premier League side West Ham United. He plans on seeing them play more thanks to his EuroMillions win.
A donation will also be made to the Young Lives Versus Cancer charity who supported him during a six-month hospital stay in 2009.
Tonight’s EuroMillions draw has a £44 million jackpot.
