Lottery Winner to get Unique Theatre Experience

The coronavirus pandemic has affected us all in many ways. We long for the days when it is possible to again go to the theatre and see our favourite shows. In Russia however, a win on the lottery could see you having a show performed in a theatre just for you.

The Perm Opera and Ballet theatre play their shows to an audience of 850 people. The pandemic has put a halt to that though and they have been unable to perform shows such as Puccini’s La Bohème or Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin.

The arts need to make a comeback and the theatre has a great idea to ensure that happens. The plan is to give private viewings of their ballets and operas. The ticket cost will be the normal one charged for such feasts of entertainment.

The One on One Project

Marat Gatsalov is the principal stage director of the theatre. He’s used to sitting alone watching plays and knows it is “a special feeling.” He believes it is a “really important experience for the viewer and the people on the stage.”

The director has come up with the One on One project. How do you win the chance to see one of their shows? The are going to hold a lottery with 850 people registering for each show. It could be an opera, a ballet or a concert. Whoever wins the lottery will be in for an amazing treat. A whole show to themselves and for the cost of a standard ticket.

Helping the theatre too

The lottery isn’t just good news for those longing to go to the theatre again. The pandemic has caused a catastrophic financial crisis for the theatre as has been the case globally. Despite being told that large audiences are not allowed, Gatsalov says “that doesn’t mean we can’t let just one viewer in.”

The first show for a lottery winner had been planned for late March. The worsening pandemic has delayed this though, but it will go ahead when rules allow. Just who will win this very special experience?
