A Ukrainian war refugee now living in Belgium has won a €500,000 scratchcard. He’s aged between 18 and 24 and moved to Brussels just over a year ago.

A Belgian National Lottery spokesperson says the winner has “mixed feelings” over his win. That’s not surprising considering what is happening in his home country.

His first plan for the lottery win is to invite those who have helped him in Belgium to a party. He also wants to help with the reconstruction of Ukraine. His long-term plan is to return home when the war is over.

Finally, a tractor

A man from Hobart in Australia has won a $200,000 prize in the 5 June Lucky Lotteries draw. When a big lottery win comes along, it’s always interesting to see just what their dream purchase is.

The Tasmanian knew straight away what he intended to buy. “This means I’ll be getting my tractor,” said the lottery winner. He’s been saving up for one for three years even though his wife thinks it’s a waste of money.

Now he can finally afford to buy one but that’s not all that is planned. The couple have already booked a holiday overseas, now the accommodation can be upgraded. It’s unlikely their lottery winnings will be wasted. The lucky player said: “We’re pretty smart with our finances and don’t overspend anywhere!”

First time lucky

Some players take years to get a big lottery win. That hasn’t been the case for Ruth Salvatore from Grants Pass in Oregon.

The 73-year-old decided to try her luck on the Win for Life game for the first time. Five tickets were purchased and one of them won $2 but the final one has won her $52,000 a year for life.

That’s a special number for Ruth as this month also sees her 52nd wedding anniversary. Plans for the lottery win include home renovations and going on holiday to Cancun in Mexico with her husband.
