Over £3.5m in Big Lottery Grants Distributed to Northwest England Groups
Community groups in the northwest of England have received an early Christmas present. That’s because they have received more than £3.5m in lottery grants from the Big Lottery Fund.The grants are made possible by using the money that is raised by players trying to win big prizes on National Lottery games. This has made the Big Lottery Fund the largest funder of community activities in the UK.
A wide range of Lottery Grants
A total of 139 community projects are celebrating receiving grants. The main towns and cities that have been given vital funding include Oldham, Bolton, Salford, Wigan and Manchester. Those receiving much-needed help cover a wide range of groups. These include a theatre group that is led by and for people that have learning disabilities.One of the
grants is a £10,000 windfall for the Greater Manchester Carer Friendly Festival. This will provide visitors with plenty of helpful information and resources, wellbeing workshops and a performance area.
Funding for all
Jenny Rouse, Head of Regional Funding at the Big Lottery Fund, said: “All over the country, National Lottery money is being used by people who are taking the lead in developing great ideas to help their communities thrive.Jenny added: "These projects in Greater Manchester are brilliant examples of this and, thanks to National Lottery players, we are proud to be able to support them to change lives for the better.”The grants are part of a recently announced £80m of funding going to over 2,200 community organisations across England.
